Aunty Pearl and I are ready to go with our Port Festival Event. So here are the details...
It's a FREE 'mail art' installation/exhibition of Port Adelaide postcards designed by people who love the place, along the theme "Wishing you were here x"
We hope it brings together perspectives of the Port's natural environment, local arts and culture, history, industry, people, grit, buildings, quirky bits and even the undiscovered!
The exhibition is open to any artistic medium: sketch, drawing, painting, digital, textile, 3D - anything - as long as the finished work is represented on a postcard and sent to me by 4th October.
To make it easy to enter, Australia Post has an App which converts your photos into a postcard! You upload your photo to the App and, for $1.99, Australia Post prints it and sends it off for you. There are other Apps available that you can use, too.
Now, anyone over 18 can enter - artists, business people, residents, students, sailors, pirates... anyone!
The entries will be on display in Aunty Pearl's pop-up gallery during the Port Festival on the 18th and 19th October. She's managed to get a shipping container donated by Alby Clark and it will be delivered to Jane St. (I hope she's told Council about that!) Of course she's fretting now about how to decorate it, so I suspect she and her girlfriends will be yarning again!
Visitors to the postcard gallery will be able to vote for their favourite postcard and the winner will be the 'official' Port Adelaide postcard for the next 12 months! We'll make sure your get credited for your work. too. And that's not bad exposure for an artist or a business, especially if your postcard gets sent around the world!
The most popular 20 postcards will also be reproduced in a coffee-table book and sold 'at cost' through The Port Visitor Information Centre.
If you'd like to enter, my Friends at the Port Adelaide Enfield Chamber of Commerce are managing the event for me so click here to get all the info, terms & conditions and entry forms.
Aunty Pearl and I can't wait to get your postcards!
